Determination...or Darwin?

Tire Rack- Revolutionizing Tire Buying

Let me set the scene: France, Rallye de Serrians, a Renault... The driver takes to the course...he bounces off the rev limiter, the navigator honks his ludicrous horn...more rev limiter abuse then, disaster. The car is dead by the side of the road.

What happens next is the stuff of legend, check it out. After the jump, pictures and the explanation.

A mere snapped throttle cable was not going to hold this road warrior back... I mean, sitting on top of the engine operating the throttle while your navigator drives does not make perfect sense to you?

I glued my eyes to the screen and overcooked the pasta but it was totally worth it :-) Incredible determination.

Reminds me of a story I heard years ago about a woman despatched to the front trunk/boot of the rear engined Skoda 120 by her husband to take care of a loose wipers contact in the pouring rain.

Kristian ....as an Italian, I feel your pain. My apologies for causing the unspeakable horror of limp noodles! :o)

that was off the charts amazing!

that was awesome i really liked the part where the co-pilot gets back in the car and straps in while the driver is in the engine bay hanging on!

My God that was full of WIN. It also got a greenlight on Fark, so expect a lot of traffic.

Would they be disqualified? I mean, the rules require full roll cage, helmets, nomex, six point harnesses, full integrated fire extinguisher system and there he is, in the engine bay, while driving on a live course.

:O

Ya can't win if ya don't finish...

AC said...

pardon my ignorance, What does a green light on Fark mean?

We're Farked?

Anonymous said...

Greenlighted on Fark means that this page is linked from Fark.com, specifically on http://www.fark.com/sports/

AC said...

wow, behold the power of FARK I guess :O)

AC said...

BTW....anyone notice the green plastic frog glued to the hood?

This Car stunt is epic on so many levels. Love it. Yea, the green frog was legendary

Anonymous said...

um... why didn't they just use a string or something attached to the throttle, then run it under the hood and into the window... i've done it before and so has a friend... much easier...

I think thats the most dangerous thing Ive ever seen.

Matt said...

Incredibly stupid, that guy should be disqualified from motorsport for life.

AC said...

Why...it was only for a few hundred yards...he should get the McGuyver award!

Denwad said...

that is awesome, ingenious

Jeebus said...

Screw Fark, you guys made it to Bannination.com, the anti-fark.

dedication...yes.
stupidity...yes.
not something i would try though, we all know what can happen during a race. luckily there was no wreck, that would have been interesting.
but good job and keep racing!!!

Just goes to show that sometimes there is a very fine line between candidates for the MacGuyver Awards and for the Darwin Awards.

Espen said...

Hahaha! That's what you call determination! I did not see that one coming!

Anonymous said...

I thought it was funny that the driver took the time to buckle up his seat belt.

Anonymous said...

determination? more like stupidity. probably 2 low life mechanics who have no brains to figure out what they're doing.

Lucy said...

now that is funy

Anonymous said...

stupifyingly dangerous. I would never do it, but WOW! Awsome show of determination!

Jonathan said...

That is nuts. I love it. That should be some new type of racing for sure.
